Summary of Job:

Food and Beverage Servers and related workers are the front line of customer service in restaurants, coffee shops, and other food service establishments in a hotel. These workers greet customers, escort them to seats and hand them menus, take food and drink orders, and serve food and beverages. They also answer questions, explain menu items and specials, and keep tables and dining areas clean and set for new diners. Most work as part of a team, helping co-workers to improve workflow and customer service.

Essential Job Functions:

Collect payments from customers

Write patrons' food orders on order slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff

Take orders form patrons for food an beverages

Check with costumers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to solve any problems

Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or server specialty dishes at tales as required

Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes

Remove plates and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning

Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, and make recommendations upon request

Inform customers of daily specials

Clean tables or counters after patrons have finished eating

Prepare hot,cold,and mixed drinks for patrons,and chill wine bottles

Explain how various menu items are prepared, describe ingredients and cooking methods

Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware and glassware

Perform food preparation duties such as preparing salads, appetizers, cold dishes, portioning desserts, and brewing coffee 

Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware and linens

Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving

Fill salt, pepper, sugar, cream, condiment, and napkin containers

Bring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses, and pour wine for customers

Escort customers to their tables

Describe and recommend to their tables

 

Qualifications:

Must have schedule flexibility for both AM/PM shifts, weekends and holidays

Ability to learn quickly and work in fast paced environment

Must be able to multi-task

Must be 21 years or older

Must have a true desire to satisfy the needs of others – Service Passion

May require a high school diploma or GED certificate

Some positions may require a formal training course to obtain a license

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Previous restaurant / Server experience preferred

Must meet company and hotel grooming standards

Ability to perform all duties as instructed on training.

Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. and push carts weighing in excess of 200 lbs.

Ability to stand for long periods of time and move moderate distances

Ability to carry heavy trays of food, dishes, and glassware

Must wear safety shoes to avoid slips and falls

Must be able to work under pressure to serve customers quickly and efficiently
